Vitamin C In Skin Care Products

Vitamin C is commonly used in anti-aging and wrinkle removing skin care products. The chief purpose of using vitamin C in these products is that it facilitates the production of collagen, which is essential for the skin to remain healthy. It also has the ability to deal with free radicals that pose a threat to the skin.

There is a major drawback in vitamin C based skin care products. They are prone to oxidation when exposed to oxidizing agents such as air and are rendered worthless for use. It tends to reveal a yellowish-brown color when oxidized and so you must check for the properties of the product you wish to buy before you purchase it. However, it does not end here because you need to be careful where you store the product apart from which you should check it regularly to see that it has not changed it’s color.

Producers of vitamin C skin care products have continuously been experimenting and moderating their products to achieve better results. One of their endeavors have shown that using a stronger composition of vitamin C can result in a longer lasting vitamin C skin care product. Sadly, the use of a stronger vitamin C content makes the product even more expensive than it already is. This would result in the loss of business for the producers of the product. Another procedure that can be followed is to make use of vitamin C by-products like magnesium ascorbyl and ascorbyl palmitate, which cost less and are more enduring. Though these by-products are not as efficient as vitamin C itself, they are far more durable and therefore a better choice. Besides, their reactions are milder, making them less prone to skin irritations.

Not all people react to a product in the same way and it is true that vitamin C skin care products do not suit all skin types and therefore it cannot be regarded as an ideal skin treatment. So, if you fail to notice a difference in the way your skin looks, it is evident that the product is not suitable for you. It is not that the product is of no good, it’s just that it does not suit your skin type.

However we have tomorrow to look forward to, as extensive research is carried out to come up with a more effective vitamin C skin care product.

Acne and The Cures For It

Posted under Featured Stories, Skin Care Treatments by admin on Wednesday 15 July 2009

Acne can be quite a nuisance. However, it doesn’t have to ruin your social life if you can find the proper cures for it. In fact there are hundreds of skin care products available in the market that provide relief from acne. These can be grouped under three different categories.

1. Standard or protective acne skin care products
2. Special acne skin care products bought over the counter
3. Prescribed acne skin care products

Standard acne skin care products include items that are used on a daily basis to prevent the growth of acne, remove make up and cleanse the skin. These are used only for preventive measures and should be included in your day-to-day use of skin care products. Many of these specifically block the growth of acne by stopping or reducing the creation of sebum or more simply oil and averting the blockage of pores in the skin. Their general function is to stop the accumulation of oil in your pores, which is responsible for the production of bacteria resulting in the growth of acne. Also placed under this category are exfoliating creams and masks that help remove dead cells, thereby checking the clogging of pores and the development of bacteria.

The second category of products consists of special acne treatments that are available freely over-the-counter without any prescription. Products such as vanishing creams come under this section. Vanishing creams are helpful in extracting any surplus oil that is hidden inside the pores. Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are stark enemies of bacteria so they are usually included in vanishing creams. You should begin by using a product with a weaker intensity of benzoyl peroxide so that you know how your skin reacts to its use. Other commonly used acne treatments involve moisturizers containing alpha-hydroxy acid. You will need to test out a few products before you can finally decide which one best suits your requirement. In case none of them turn out to be satisfactory, it would be advisable to visit a dermatologist.

Acne skin care products, which have been prescribed to you by a skin specialist or dermatologist comprise of various medicinal ointments that are used for applying on affected areas. The prescription could also include an antibiotic course that has to be taken orally apart from any other relevant medicines. The dermatologist may also recommend a minor surgery wherein a simple process is used to extract the infected contents from the pores. You must not however, attempt to do this on your own because it could cause permanent skin damage. Hormonal changes also trigger off acne and therefore if required, the dermatologist may include a treatment that rectifies the hormonal imbalance so that acne may be prevented.

You can see from what you have just learned that the prevention of acne is not tough to accomplish if you know what to use.
